How are train stations used in Ticket to Ride?

A Train Station allows its owner to use one, and only one, of the routes belonging to another player, into (or out of) that city to help him connect the cities on his Destination Tickets. Stations may be built on any unoccupied city, even if it currently has no claimed routes into it.

How does a Ticket to Ride borrowed route work?

Your 3 stations let you borrow one route at the end of the turn. On your turn, pay the cards needed (one card for the first station, 2 identical ones for the second, etc.) and place a station on a city that the borrowed route connects to.

Can you use stations in Ticket to Ride France?

Throughout the game, you can only claim a route that is connected to one of your stations, essentially making you branch out from where you began, rather than being able to jump around the map as you see fit. You can also build additional stations when you claim a route to a city by spending two additional cards.

Is there any strategy to Ticket to Ride?

Choose tickets you think you can finish. Remember also that big routes are much harder to complete in a 4-5 player game. Avoid telegraphing where your routes are going because others can block you easily.

How do you find the longest route in Ticket to Ride?

The longest route includes all the red trains (50 trains) and does not include all the blue trains of the smaller routes branching off. Note that the branches do not count although they are connected. The Trans America Express (worth 10 points) card in Ticket To Ride is awarded to the player with the longest route.

Can you discard train cards in Ticket to Ride?

You must keep at least one of those cards, but may keep both of them if you want. Any returned cards are placed at the bottom of the Destination Ticket cards deck. You cannot discard a Destination Ticket card once you have chosen to keep it.

Can you claim multiple routes in Ticket to Ride?

One player cannot claim both routes to the same cities. Important Note: In 2 or 3 player games, only one of the Double-Routes can be used. A player can claim either of the two routes between cities, but the other route is then closed to other players. A player can use his turn to draw more Destination Ticket cards.

Can you discard routes in Ticket to Ride?

You cannot discard a Destination Ticket card once you have chosen to keep it. If there is only one Destination Ticket card left in the deck, you can still do this action but must keep the card. Destination Ticket cards and their completion must be kept secret from other players until the end of the game.

What are the gray spaces in Ticket to Ride?

Some routes – those that are Gray colored – can be claimed using a set of cards of any one color. When a route is claimed, the player places one of his plastic trains in each of the spaces of the route. All the cards in the set used to claim the route are then discarded. A player may claim any open route on the board.

Do you always have to have a destination card in Ticket to Ride?

A player must keep at least two Destination Ticket cards, but may keep all three if he wants. The returned cards are placed on the bottom of the Destination Ticket deck which is also next to the board. All players must keep their Destination Tickets secret until the end of the game.
