How do you adjust the electric choke on a Solex carburetor?

Keep your eye on the butterfly valve in the carburetor throat. Turn the choke element clockwise until the butterfly is standing straight up. Then turn the choke counterclockwise until the choke butterfly fully closes (not too tight).

How do I know if my electric choke is working?

With a meter or a test light, make sure you have power going through the green wire connected to the choke assembly. If not, find out why you have no power there. If you do, put the wire back on and watch the upper choke plate. It should slowly open up and be fully opened within a couple of minutes.

At 5°-10°C (41°-50°F), the choke plate should be fully open in about ten minutes. Check for bent choke linkage and a defective thermostat cap. And ensure the fast idle cam (screw) is properly set.
