How do you rescue a bird?
Follow these instructions to rescue a bird:
- Prepare a carrier.
- Protect yourself.
- Cover the bird with a light sheet or towel.
- Gently pick up the bird and put it in the prepared carrier.
- Warm the animal.
- Contact a Wildlife Rehabilitator near you.
What do you do with an injured baby bird?
Put the baby in a small box with air holes and bring the bird to the nearest wildlife rehabilitation center. Juvenile birds or fledglings are usually fully feathered or have tufts of down. They are active and appear able to fly, but can’t get enough vertical height to avoid predators or return to their home.
Can you take an injured bird to the vet?
An injured bird should always be passed onto a local vet, RSPCA in England and Wales, SSPCA in Scotland, USPCA in Northern Ireland or an independent rescue centre, so it can receive appropriate treatment without undue delay.
How do you help a baby bird that fell out of its nest?
If you find a fledgling, the best course of action is to leave it alone. As awkward as a fledgling bird may look, this is natural stage, and the parents are most likely nearby, hunting for food and keeping watch. If the bird’s in immediate danger, you can put it in a nearby bush or tree.

How do you take care of a bird with a broken wing?
A bird with a broken wing (or other injury) should not be moved except when absolutely necessary, even if it is your pet bird. This will help prevent further injury for the bird. Pick the bird up with a towel, wrap it in a towel, and place it in a shoebox. Then don’t move the bird again unless absolutely necessary.

A broken wing can be immobilised by taping the wing in its natural folded position (not too tightly so as to restrict breathing). Micropore tape or vet rap tape doesn’t stick to the feathers.
