How do you travel with a guitar amp?

Can you put an amp on its side?
Generally, no it would not be acceptable to install an amp on its side. The heat sinks are usually designed with vertical fins that allow hot air to rise across the fins and carry away the heat. If you install the amp on its side, the fins would usually be sitting horizontally and would trap the heat inside the amp.
Can you put a guitar amp on its side?
Just make sure the power tubes are on the bottom side. That way, the heat they give off will have to travel farther to get to the wood cabinet. A lot of times when I play with tube amps I set them on their side to disperse the heat generated by the tubes.
What amp does Larry Carlton use?

Portable amplifiers are easier to take on the go. A lot of them can even be strapped to a belt. The biggest advantage is that you can power them using batteries.
Can a car battery power a guitar amp?
This is why many buskers who used electric or acoustic guitar amplifiers are using car batteries as a power source. You can also use any other lead-acid deep-cycle batteries, like leisure batteries for campers, buggy batteries, golf cart batteries, or anything similar that can bring enough power to your amp.
Can you leave an amp in the cold?
It turns out that tube amps can be stored at reasonably cold temperatures without any issues. While temperatures of -40 degree Fahrenheit and beyond can be damaging to some electrical components, the biggest problem that results from storing tube amps in the cold is temperature fluctuation.
