How does a spoke tensiometer work?

Basically they all apply a preset tension to a spoke (the same spoke and desired tension required for the particular wheel build), then a tensiometer reading is taken. The reading is just a number, that’s all, and you tension the spokes in the wheel to the same number.

How do you calibrate a Park Tool TM-1?

To calibrate Park Tool TM-1, just unwind spring tension setting screw on the back side of a tool accordingly. The mechanical design of Park Tool TM-1 spoke tension meter is quite simple. Adjusting the spring preload will determine how your tension meter works.

How tight should my spokes be?

The general rule is that you want to set the spoke tension as high as the weakest part of the wheel which is the rim. Wheels that are well-built will not need to have the spokes adjusted often. If you are going to be adjusting spokes, remember to loosen the opposite side spokes as you tighten one side.

Is WD-40 good for cleaning bike chains?

WD-40 is a great bike chain lube water based lubricant and will not only lubricate the chain well, but will also keep it rust and corrosion free.

How much does it cost to true a wheel?

If the wheel is fixable–it generally looks good but has a wobble–you can expect your local bike shop to charge $20 – $30 to true it using professional equipment like a truing stand for the perfect line and roundness.

Is silicone spray good for bike chains?

Yes. It is not optimal for use on chains though. It washes away rather easily leaving your chain unprotected and un-lubricated. It would work in a pinch but a light oil or something specifically made for the application will work much better and last a lot longer.

Can I use WD-40 to clean my bike chain?

WD-40 is best for cleaning off gunk, grime, and dirt from your bike chain and derailleur. Spray it onto your chain as a degreaser, and it’ll help knock off the grime. Once you’ve degreased the chain you’ll want to use soap and water to get it sparkling clean.

Is it OK to soak a bike chain in degreaser?

With the chain off the bike, you can leave it to soak overnight in degreaser, before giving it a thorough scrubbing with a toothbrush. Or you can put it in an old water bottle full of degreaser and shake it clean.
