How does TMEA All Region work?

TMEA All-State Beginning each fall, over 70,000 high school students across the state audition in their TMEA Region. Individuals perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. A select group of musicians advances to compete against musicians from other Regions in their TMEA Area.

How many areas are there in TMEA?

TMEA is divided into 33 Regions around the state.

All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. 1,830 students are selected through a process that begins with over 70,000 students from around the state vying for this honor to perform in one of 18 ensembles sponsored by the Band, Orchestra, and Vocal Divisions.

Is mixed choir better than treble choir?

A majority of students who were surveyed and interviewed chose the mixed choir as their preferred ensemble in which to sing. Auditioned choir members saw the treble clef choir as being even less prestigious than did the non-auditioned choir members.

Practice

  1. KNOW YOUR SCALES! Most states require you to play at least all major scales in a particular order from memory.
  2. Learn your music slowly. I get it – you want to learn your music, like, yesterday.
  3. Practice sight-reading.

  6. Practice performance run-throughs.

Treble Choir is a choir that sings a variety of literature reflecting the best in music written or arranged for treble voices. The repertoire ranges from Medieval through contemporary music, both sacred and secular.
