How tight should my anti sway bar be?

You would make it about as tight as you think it needs to be and then tow the trailer to see if it needs to be tighter or looser. If you made it as tight as you can then you would not be able to move the bar by hand but the force of the trailer pushing it around can move it.

How tight should a trailer sway bar be?

The sway bar shouldn’t be too compressed or overextended beyond its limits. Make sure that the sway control isn’t too close to the bumpers or the trailer frame. You can adjust the tension until the towing feels right. Some trailers are too large for a single sway control kit and might require installing two.

How high should hitch be from ground?

We normally recommend at least 11” of clearance from the bottom of your LOADED trailer hitch ball mount to the ground, no less. That 11” of clearance gives you some leeway for bumps, dips, and slanted driveways so that you do not scrape the bottom of your hitch.

What happens if weight distribution bars are too tight?

Depending on how tight they are, the more tension they will be able to put on the trailer frame. This naturally slightly lifts the back of the trailer, opposing the natural downward pressure put on the trailer by all the weight in the front. If it is too loose, it won’t be able to offset the pressure in the front.

Can you over tighten a sway bar?

A key part of a car’s suspension system, the sway bar link is susceptible to damage due to overtightening.

What happens if your hitch is too high?

If the hitch is too high for the travel trailer, it will tip backward, creating a slanted profile and an unbalanced weight distribution. You’ll be less aerodynamic this way and your trailer is more likely to catch the wind and begin to sway.

– Provides additional control compared to 2-point or friction-style systems – Can back up without disengaging system – Can be used with surge (or hydraulic) brakes – Typically easier to hook up than systems with chains – Great option for towing larger trailers – Overtightening/undertightening is not an issue (unlike with friction sway systems)
