Is 6L6 same as EL34?
The 6L6 vs EL34 tubes have been rivals for many years, but what’s the difference? The main difference between the 6L6 and EL34 tubes is that they have different sounds and electrical operating parameters. The EL34 is much more scooped sounding and doesn’t have the same amount of headroom that the 6L6 offers.
What tubes can replace 6L6?
5581 tubes, for example, usually have a lower plate voltage tolerance than 6L6 tubes. In many cases, 6L6s can be safely substituted for 5881s, but not vice versa. In a few cases, where the plate voltage tolerance is high enough, 5881s can be used in amps designed for 6L6s.
Can you substitute KT66 for EL34?
No, the EL34 is a Pentode, the KT66 is a Tetrode. Pin 1 of the KT66 might be internally connected whereas in the EL34 it goes to the Suppressor Grid. Ratings are slightly different. It might still work, but you would need some circuit changes.
