Is questacon good for adults?
Great exhibits on every level, finishing with the free fall which she loved! This is a wonderful adventure of a place, with all kinds of exhibits that make science fun and accessible. It’s pitched at kids but as 50 something adults we found plenty to enjoy.
How long do you spend at Questacon?
We think it’s best for kids of about 4 and up. We spent 3.5 hours there recently but could have stayed longer – that was with a 4.5 and 6.5 year old. If you’re in Canberra for a short time there may be other things you’re wanting to see which may also restrict the amount of time you’re able to spend at Questacon.

How many Questacons are there?
The first team graduated in 1988 and there are now over 300 Science Circus graduates. Graduates have contributed to programs on Australian Broadcasting Corporation Radio, the Diffusion Science Radio Show, Cosmos Magazine, and The Mr. Science Show podcast.
What can u do at Questacon?
Inside you will find a soft play climbing frame, space play, a baby space, a quiet space, a popular water play area with floating balls to play with (as well as smocks to wear to stay dry), role play areas so kids can use their imagination and a sensory space.

Can you take food into Questacon?
There are special areas I can eat or drink at Questacon. Food and drink are not allowed in the Galleries. If we bring food from home, I can eat it anywhere outside or at the tables in the foyer. There is a café at Questacon.
Is Questacon parking free?
One thing that is going to be a problem for many people is that Canberra City Council has started to charge for parking at ALL the parliamentary circle attractions . This means that there is no longer any free parking at places like Questacon, the National Gallery, Portrait gallery, National library etc.
Is there parking at Questacon?
The smaller car park adjacent to Questacon contains only 4 hour parking. The larger car park (further down Parkes Place West) contains 4 hour parking (in the first two rows) and all day parking in the remaining rows.

Questacon was founded by ANU Professor Mike Gore AM, whose great love of teaching both students and the general public inspired him to develop Australia’s first interactive science centre, based on the Exploratorium in San Francisco.

Questacon’s Free Fall slide is approximately 6.7 metres high, and there is an element of fear or anxiety involved for many! What is this? This exhibit requires visitors to pass certain medical and physical checks before use, including a height restriction. Kids must be 5 or over to have a go.

What does the word Questacon mean?
The name ‘Questacon’ combines two words— ‘quest’ meaning ‘to discover’ and ‘con’ meaning ‘to study’. Despite a modest beginning, by the mid-1980s Questacon had achieved national and international recognition. Today Questacon is Australia’s largest science centre and is among the world’s leading science centres.
