Is Wiseco a good piston brand?

Absolutely. Wiseco pistons are among the finest powersports pistons available. Unlike most OEM or other aftermarket pistons, Wiseco pistons are forged in-house at their own manufacturing facility.

Where are SPI Pistons made?

Kimpex SPI and Parts Unlimited are all the same, they all have the same casting mark by the foundry inside them, they are all made in Taiwan..

Are Wiseco pistons made in USA?

To this day, Wiseco remains one of the only piston manufacturers to forge pistons in-house in the USA. This is why Wiseco engineers utilize the latest 3D design techniques and finite element modeling software to ensure each design provides the highest strength and lightest weight for each application.

Where is Wiseco made?

Mentor, Ohio
All Wiseco pistons are forged and manufactured in Mentor, Ohio.

Are SPI and SPX Pistons the same?

The different names are for their wholesale distributors ( Gamma, Motovan, Kimpex, Sportsparts etc). Moly coated SPI, SPX are just regular Kimpex pistons with a skirt coating-same piston, same rings. SPI now have Hyperdryve pistons and SPX have exact same premium pistons called Quantum Series.

Who bought Wiseco pistons?

Performance Motor Sports (PMI)
Performance Motor Sports (PMI) is a textbook example of the ability of a platform company to grow quickly as part of Dover. Since the acquisition of Wiseco Piston in 1998, the management of PMI has acquired five complementary companies and in the process has tripled annual sales.

How do you break in a new Wiseco Piston?

At first start up, keep the engine just above idle and give it a few revs up and down. This power on and power off RPM breaks in the piston and rings evenly on the intake and exhaust sides. If air cooled, once the engine builds up heat where it becomes too hot to touch, shut the engine off.

Where are Mahle pistons made?

Morristown, TN piston
All pistons are manufactured in the Morristown, TN piston plant, including the MAHLE Motorsport parts used at virtually every racing venue in the world. All piston rings are produced in St. Johns, MI.

Do you oil piston rings before installing?

Apply a liberal amount of oil to the wrist pins and piston rings as well. You don’t need to drench the piston in oil—use enough to lubricate the rings as they pass through the piston ring compressor. No need to dunk the piston and ring assembly in a quart of oil!

Are MAHLE pistons any good?

Mahle makes a good piston and a bomb proof rod. If money is tight then I would use Mahle and honestly depends on the applications.

Is MAHLE a Japanese company?

MAHLE in Japan is the first in the world to mass produce plastic cylinder head cover in 1982.

How do you break in new piston rings?

Do you have to hone cylinders when replacing rings?

More often than not, you will need to hone your cylinder when replacing the piston rings. That is because honing creates small crosshatches in the surface of the cylinder, to allow the wall of the component to retain oil and provide lubrication for the piston ring.

How long does it take for piston rings to bed in?

At this point satisfactory run-in has taken place and the rings will have good compression control. Complete bed-in of rings may take as long as 10,000kms. This will depend upon the quality of the cylinder honing and the application of the correct run-in procedure .

Can you change Pistons without removing the head?

Yes it will. Really bad rings will instantly show low compression. Then pour a few tablespoons of oil down the spark plug hole and the compression will get better.

Are 4032 pistons good?

The 4032 alloy offers not only less expansion and quieter cold startup operation, but also excellent strength relative to long-term wear characteristics that make it a great street performance piston.
