What does the T mean on my tax code?

The T Code: Your Personal Allowance has some other calculations factored into it. The 0T Code: This either means you’ve used up your Personal Allowance, you don’t have a P45 or you’ve got a new employer and they don’t have the information they need to work out your proper tax code.

What does a tax code of K mean?

Tax codes with the letter ‘K’ The letter K is used in an employee’s tax code when deductions due for company benefits, state pension or tax owed from previous years are greater than their Personal Allowance.

Emergency tax codes are temporary. HMRC will usually update your tax code when you or your employer give them your correct details. If your change in circumstances means you have not paid the right amount of tax, you’ll stay on the emergency tax code until you’ve paid the correct tax for the year.

Are K tax codes cumulative?

This means your new K code will be applied on a Week1/Month 1 basis, rather than cumulatively. It won’t be used to recalculate the tax paid for previous months, which is usually what happens when your tax code chnages.
