What has happened to the Llangollen Railway?
On 1 March 2021 the Llangollen Railway PLC announced that it was going into receivership, with debts of about £350,000 and “no prospect” of meeting their liabilities. Operation of the railway was handed over to the Llangollen Railway Trust, and the line reopened July 2021.
Can dogs go on Llangollen Railway?
Yes. The website states “Well behaved dogs may travel on all of our services at a cost of £1 (Assistance dogs are free). All dogs must sit on the floor underneath the table and NOT on the seats.”

Can dogs go on Bala Lake Railway?
Yes, dogs are welcome on our trains, provided their owners are well-behaved! Dogs should be kept under control at all times and are not allowed to sit on the seats. It is your responsibility to make sure that your dog(s) do not cause a nuisance to other travellers.
Why did the Mid Sodor Railway close?
The section was closed to all traffic in 1936. Three of the six locomotives were sold in an effort to keep the Company’s head above water, and with them went the bogie saloon stock used on the Boat Trains and the Picnics. These later found homes all over the Island.

Bala Lake or Llyn Tegid is a mesotrophic lake, 4 miles long and ½ mile wide, south of the town of Bala. The main P&D parking area and ‘beach’ can be found just off the A494, where there are toilets and a cafe.
Can dogs sit on your lap on a train?

The Llangollen Canal is fed from the River Dee at Llantysilio and has twenty-one locks. The last four are in a close flight at Hurleston Junction where the canal meets the Shropshire Union Canal. There, the four locks drop the water level by 34ft 3in (almost 10.5 metres).
