What is an itinerant frequency?

An itinerant license covers the use of radios throughout an entire state of your choice. Itinerant frequencies are intended to be used by companies who use radios at various locations, rather than exclusively at a single fixed location.

What frequencies do businesses use?

The electromagnetic spectrum between approximately 450 and 470 MHz is used largely for UHF business communications, although this spectrum is not exclusively for business use.

Which frequency bands are unlicensed?

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has three primary frequency bands designated for unlicensed operation. Unlicensed means the operator of the radios does not need to file directly with the FCC to use the radio. The three frequency bands used for this in the U.S. are the 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz.

Can you swear on a walkie talkie?

Federal law prohibits obscene, indecent and profane content from being broadcast on the radio or TV.

Why should I get a GMRS license?

The FCC requires a GMRS license as a way to regulate frequencies that are used by two-way radio devices. Before operating a GMRS radio, a consumer must have a valid license.

Does ham license cover GMRS?

A ham license only covers an individual while a GMRS license covers a family. Hams are free to build their own experimental equipment. GMRS equipment must be type 95 certified by the FCC. GMRS radios are widely available.

Do I need a licence for a VHF radio?

Handheld VHF/DSC radios require a special Licence. This licence enables the operator to use any handheld marine VHF/DSC radio which is not permanently fitted to a vessel. The Licence number will be prefixed with the letter ‘T’ (Transportable) and will be subject to checks for correct details every ten years.

Can you say the F word on radio?

Profane content is defined by the FCC as “including language so grossly offensive to members of the public who actually hear it as to amount to a nuisance.” Obscene content is never allowed on broadcast television or radio.

Are GMRS licenses enforced?

FRS frequencies are limited to lower power and don’t require a license, GMRS allows for higher power and technically requires a license, but up till now that’s generally not been commonly adhered to nor meaningfully enforced.
