What is armor plate backer?
Plate backers are a great way to add some padding behind your plate, level up a plate rating or even to just use it as a soft armor solution. All our backers are compliant to an NIJ Level III-A (How To Choose The Right Body Armor).
What is a soft plate?
What are Soft Armor Inserts? Soft body armor inserts are made of incredibly strong Kevlar and Para-aramid materials. These inserts are placed in the front and back of vests and are made of protective ballistic material, which is held inside of a carrier.
What do plate backers do?
GX Ballistic Armour Plate Backers The LOF GX Ballistic Armour Plate Backer is meant to enhance existing personal body armour. It can be attached directly to your soft body armour or it can be mounted in a plate carrier.
What are trauma pads?
Designed to stop severe bleeding, the trauma pad is sized so that it can easily cover most large wound areas. The sealed sterile pad is highly absorbent and can be used as a pressure dressing to help minimize blood loss and keep wounds clean. Each pad is individually packaged to guarantee sterility.
How tight should my plate carrier be?
Your straps should be just tight enough to prevent plate movement but not so tight that it restricts your ability to take full, deep breaths. If you notice curling and unnecessary wear to the ballistic panels, you are either strapped in too tight or you need a smaller plate carrier.
How fragile are ceramic armor plates?
Although they can withstand the impact from a high velocity round, ceramic protection plates are breakable, and can be easily damaged or even shatter if dropped. Just a small chip or hairline crack invisible to the naked eye can affect the plate’s integrity and its ability to stop incoming rounds.
What are soft armor plates made of?
Most metal trauma plates are made primarily of steel or titanium, although aluminum and various alloys also exist. Steel plating, although it suffers less deformation, may suffer greater impulse generated by an impact, as the steel bends very little, and thus little energy is captured.
What is soft armor made of?
Soft body armor is lightweight and flexible as made of a textile fabric reinforced in different ways to guarantee extreme strength. Nylon and Kevlar are the most common.
Do you need trauma pads with soft armor?
Are Trauma Pads Necessary? Typically, old bulletproof vests need an add-on trauma pad. But, newer versions of military-grade ballistic vests and plate carriers, such as SAPI and ESAPI systems, do not as they are rigid enough to withstand the energy of incoming rounds.
Do you need trauma pads with ceramic armor?
No matter what level of armor you’re wearing, it’s always a good idea to include an additional trauma pad. It is another layer of protection to keep you safe. Adding an extra pad to body armor will never reduce its effectiveness, it can only increase it.
Why are plate carriers so small?
It seems in the last few years special forces have have moving to smaller and smaller plate carriers, covering less area in hard plate and soft armor. Less weight/ more maneuverability but less protection.
