What is FAIR data management?

FAIR data are data which meet principles of findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability. The acronym and principles were defined in a March 2016 paper in the journal Scientific Data by a consortium of scientists and organizations.

How do you plan to make data Fair?

Make your data interoperable by using

  1. when possible, well-known and preferably open formats and software.
  2. relevant standards for metadata.
  3. community agreed schemas, controlled vocabularies, keywords, thesauri or ontologies where possible.

Why is FAIR data important?

Why Is FAIR Data Important? The FAIR Data Principles make data more valuable as it is easier to find through unique identifiers and easier to combine and integrate thanks to the formal shared knowledge representation.

Is FAIR data Open data?

They do, however, require clarity and transparency around the conditions governing access and reuse. As such, while FAIR data does not need to be open, in order to comply with the condition of reusability, FAIR data are required to have a clear, preferably machine readable, license.

What should a data management plan include?

How do you maintain metadata fairness?

Publish and preserve Even though your publications contain your results, your data may still not be findable. Metadata are machine-readable, and when they have a persistent identifier, search engines can easily find them. To be FAIR, your data (and metadata) must have a findable persistent identifier.

What are the Fair guiding principles?

The FAIR Data Principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable), published in Scientific Data in 2016, are a set of guiding principles proposed by a consortium of scientists and organizations to support the reusability of digital assets.

What are data principles?

Data principles set a clear standard which promotes public trust in our data handling and provides high quality, inclusive and trusted statistics. The Data Principles help to create the data conditions to deliver the Data Strategy and are supported by Data and Statistical Policies and Data Standards.

Who is responsible for data management plan?

“For the proposed research, [name] will take the lead and responsibility for coordinating and ensuring data storage and access. However, [name] will also be involved in managing, storing, and disseminating the results of the project. Both PIs will be responsible for checking that the plan is being followed. ”
