How long does it take to stencil a floor?
I didn’t time myself, but I believe it took me around 5 hours to stencil the floor, plus another 2 hours or so to prep, prime and paint the floor with the base coat. So, again, it is a time consuming project, but it is one of my favorite projects of all time, so was 7 hours WELL spent!
Can I stencil bathroom tiles?
The easy part about stenciling bathroom tile (or any tile for that matter) is that you use the grout lines to keep the stencil straight, lining it up exactly in the center. Works perfectly! I used a bit of painters tape on each side to keep the stencil in place while I painted.

Paint on the Base Coat Top the primer with three coats of porch-and-floor paint in a glossy or semigloss sheen. Sand lightly between coats and let dry for a day or two before stenciling.

I think that most painted tile should last many years if the surface is prepared properly, a good paint is used, and if it’s sealed properly. You may want to consider re-sealing the floor every year or two if it’s in a high-traffic area.
What kind of paint do you use on vinyl flooring?
Ordinary latex enamel might look good for a while, but it’s not durable enough for a floor. Instead, use a porch and floor paint that’s made to hold up to foot traffic. Applying two coats of paint over two coats of primer will help make the finish more impervious.
How can I make my vinyl floor look better?
Because all we’ve done in the last two weeks is explore options for a few different things to try in that room, and make a few decisions….
- Cover in peel-and-stick vinyl tiles.
- Cover them in plywood.
- Cover it in prettier vinyl sheet flooring.
- Ceramic or Porcelain Tile.
- Paint it!
Why you shouldn’t paint tile floor?
It’s definitely not as durable as real floor tile or other flooring, so that’s why I recommend it as a short term solution. For a low traffic room, it can be a longer term solution for updating your flooring. But, keep in mind it will still be subject to chipping because it’s still paint!
