What is Forton VF 774?

FORTON® VF 774 is an all acrylic, co-polymer dispersion specifically formulated for the Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) production process as well as for concrete and concrete repair products.

What does acrylic polymer do for concrete?

With the addition of five to fifteen percent dry latex to dry concrete, styrene butadiene, styrene acylic, and all acrylic emulsion polymers improve flexibility, reduce cracking, enhance adhesion to most substrates, improve water resistance, and increase hardness of latex modified concrete pastes, mortars, and grouts.

What polymer is used in Gfrc?

acrylic thermoplastic copolymer emulsion
The specialized polymer used in GFRC was developed and has been used for over 40 years. It is an acrylic thermoplastic copolymer emulsion that contains defoamers and other additives to improve and preserve the concrete it’s used in. The polymer is UV stable, so it doesn’t degrade in sunlight.

How do you use Forton MG?

For hand layup a solution of 1 lb of FMG Accelerator (Aluminum Sulfate) into 10 lbs of water can easily be made. Mix the Forton™ MG components into a creamy slurry. Then add the accelerator while mixing. A good starting point is to add 1 tablespoon of accelerator for every 10 lbs of gypsum in the mix.

What is cast Forton?

Forton MG Casting System. Forton MG is a unique combination of high-strength alpha hemi-hydrate gypsum with water based polymer chemistry that is reinforced with “E” glass fiber.

Can you add polymer to concrete?

Polymer modified concrete overlays are an alternative to breaking out and replacing an existing concrete slab, which can be expensive, messy, disruptive, and time-consuming. Polymers are added to the concrete mixes either in the form of an aqueous emulsion or in a dispersed form.

How long does Gfrc take to cure?

The entire slurry process takes between 4-5 days. The concrete is then allowed to cure (dry out) for another 1-2 days before the sealer can be applied. We allow the concrete to fully dry out before we apply the sealer to ensure the concrete is maturing and the internal moisture has been reduced to very low levels.

How do you mix Forton?

What is Forton used for?

Forton® MG can be used for restoration and replication of natural façade materials, architectural ornamentation, decorative arts casting, flower pots and cold cast metal elements and sculpture.

How strong is polymer concrete?

Tensile strength Jo et al. (2006) found that polymer concrete made with unsaturated polyester resin from PET waste can achieve a very high tensile strength (22.4 MPa in flexural and 7.85 MPa in splitting test).

Is polymer concrete waterproof?

Polymer cement waterproof coating is most suitable for waterproof, impervious and moisture-proof projects of non-exposed roofs, toilets and external walls.

What are the disadvantages of polymer concrete?

Disadvantages of Polymer Concrete

  • Polymer concrete is very expensive than a conventional concrete.
  • Polymer concrete needs high skill and precise work while mixing.
  • Improper proportioning of two-component materials can occur; thus, the proper mix design is required.

Should you cover fresh concrete with plastic?

Covering the curing concrete with plastic keeps it cleaner, but there is a more important purpose behind this practice. Water is mixed into concrete to activate the cement binding agent and as the mix dries, it hardens. The drying, or “curing,” should be gradual, otherwise cracking may occur.

How long do concrete countertops need to cure before sealing?

4 days
With most quality concrete countertop mixes, 2 days following casting is a good start, although more time should be given during cooler periods, and more time is always better if you have time to give. For best results let your concrete cure for at least 4 days prior to sealing.

What is Forton MG?

Forton™ MG or FMG is a four component system which consists of an alpha gypsum blended with three specialty additives. FMG is based on the VF-812 water based polymer emulsion (50% solids) and greatly enhances the physical properties of alpha gypsum products.

What is meant by polymer concrete?

Polymer concrete is the composite material made by fully replacing the cement hydrate binders of conventional cement concrete with polymer binders or liquid resins, and is a kind of concrete-polymer composite.

What is the benefit of polymer concrete?

Advantages of Polymer Concrete It reduces the intrusion of carbon dioxide, saving concrete from carbonation and hence loss of alkalinity. Polymer concrete offers very good resistance against corrosion and chemical reactivity.

Does spraying water on concrete help it cure?

Spraying water on your new concrete is one of the best and oldest ways to cure your concrete. After new concrete is poured and finished the concrete begins its curing process.

What is fortforton vf-774?

Forton ® VF-774 is an all acrylic, co-polymer dispersion (51% solids) specifically formulated for the GFRC production process and Complies with PCI plant certification program specification Appendix L.

Is vf-774 UV stable?

VF-774 is UV stable. It is further formulated to be stable and durable in the high pH Portland cement-based GFRC composite. Forton® VF-774 is the world-wide standard concrete additive for making lightweight GFRC, Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete, panels.

What is the recommended storage temperature for vf-774?

Recommended storage temperature range: 50°F – 100°F (10°C – 38°C). VF-774 should be stored in closed containers out of direct sun light and away from direct sources of heat. SHELF LIFE – Shelf life of VF-774 is one year in unopened containers when properly stored. Smooth-On cannot guarantee shelf life of opened or repackaged units.

What is the purpose of the extra defoamer in a vf-774?

VF-774 contains additional defoamer to maintain a high quality slurry through the rigors of high-shear mixing and spraying. Water based, all acrylic co-polymer emulsion formulated to comply with PCI MNL 130, Quality Control Manual, Appendix G for curing admixtures used in GFRC.
