What is Salaam contract?

Refers to the purchase of a commodity for deferred delivery in exchange for immediate payment. Thus, in a Salam contract, the price is paid in full and in advance while the commodity is deferred to an agreed date in the future. This type of contract might be used where the commodity price is subject to change.

What is Salam transaction?

In a bai al salam transaction, a lender (Al-muslam) buys an asset from a party seeking financing (the seller or Al-muslam Ileihi), pays the purchase price of the asset in advance and agrees to take delivery of the asset at a later date.

What is Salam and Parallel Salam?

For Salam contract, the bank acts as the buyer, purchasing assets or commodities from suppliers. For the Parallel Salam contract, the bank acts as the seller to the client. The quantity, quality, and specifications of the assets or commodities are the same in both contracts.

The motivation for bay’ al-salam is the seller’s need for immediate funds to spend for his family sustenance as well as to help him with his production. Bai-Istisna may be defined as advance purchase of a commodity/product making advance payment by the Bank on execution of a written contract wherein it is clearly mentioned that the commodity will be delivered as per specification, size, quality, quantity at a fixed future time in a particular place.

Musawamah is a general kind of sale in which price of the commodity to be traded is stipulated between seller and the buyer without any reference to the price paid or cost incurred by the former. Thus it is different from Murabaha in respect of pricing formula.

How Bai Bithaman Ajil work?

In a bai bithaman ajil transaction, a lender buys an asset desired by the borrower and sells that asset to the borrower for the original purchase price plus a profit element (analogous to the interest amount in a conventional finance transaction).
