What is show FCNS database?

The show fcns database command displays the results of the discovery, or to display the name server database for a specified VSAN or for all VSANs.

How to check flogi in cisco?

Use the show flogi command to verify if a storage device is displayed in the Fabric login (FLOGI) table as in the following examples. If the required device is displayed in the FLOGI table, the fabric login is successful.

What is Flogi and Plogi in san?

During the FLOGI process, a device sends its first frame to the SAN switch. The SAN switch assigns an FCID to the device and the end device confirms to the switch that it received an FCID. The switch uses this FCID to identify the end device connected to it in the SAN network.

What is a Fcid?

The FCID is similar to an IP address in Ethernet. It’s used by Fibre Channel switches to route traffic between servers and their storage. Switches maintain a table of FCID to WWPN address mappings and what port the host is located on. The Fibre Channel switches share information with each other.

What is Flogi?

Fabric Login (FLOGI) When you connect your server or storage, it will send a Fabric login (FLOGI) request. This FLOGI request serves two purposes: Fibre Channel ID is the WWPN connection to this port from the FLOGI server. Exchange buffer credits with the switch.

What is WWPN storage?

A WWPN is a World Wide Port Name; a unique identifier for each Fibre Channel port presented to a Storage Area Network (SAN). Each port on an IBM Storage Device has a unique and persistent WWPN.

What is Ve_port?

VE_Ports allow for two Cisco Nexus 5000 products to be connected together and merged into the same fabric using FCoE links. VE_Ports can be created as either individual links or as shown in the following example configured to use a Port channel.

What is Fcdomain?

The Fibre Channel domain (fcdomain) feature performs principal switch selection, domain ID distribution, FC ID allocation, and fabric reconfiguration functions as described in the FC-SW-2 standards. The domains are configured on a per VSAN basis. If you do not configure a domain ID, the local switch uses a random ID.

What is WWN zoning?

WWN zoning (also called name zoning) restricts access by a device’s WWN. As the WWN is on the host, the port the host is connected to can be moved and access is still preserved. Connecting a new device into a port previously used by a WWN zone device will not convey any access to the previous device’s resources.

What is difference between Wwnn and WWPN?

A WWPN is a World Wide Port Name; a unique identifier for each Fibre Channel port presented to a Storage Area Network (SAN). Each port on a Storage Device has a unique and persistent WWPN. A World Wide Node Name, WWNN, or WWnN, is a World Wide Name assigned to a node (an endpoint, a device) in a Fibre Channel fabric.

What is the difference between WWNN and WWPN?

What is the difference between FCIP and FCoE?

FCIP is superior for creating tunnels between different networks for seamless communication. FCoE shines for SAN setups that regularly need to switch how they communicate with different devices within the server system.

What is Fcid in Fibre channel?

How do I access Cisco MDS?

Accessing the Switch Serial console access—You can use a serial port connection to access the CLI. In-band IP (IPFC) access—You can use Telnet or SSH to access a switch in the Cisco MDS 9000 Family or use Cisco MDS 9000 Fabric Manager to access the switch.

What is LUN and WWN?

Any device with multiple ports has a WWN for each port, which enables more precise targeting. LUN masking, a further constraint on zoning, subdivides port access so that only LUNs authorized to access a specific server can access the corresponding port.

What is port WWN and Node WWN?

For a HBA mounted in a server the node WWN is the WWN of the HBA itself, the port WWN is the WWN of a specific port on this HBA.

What WWNN used for?

A WWNN is used to uniquely identify a device in a Storage Area Network (SAN). Each IBM storage device has its own unique WWNN. For DS8000, each Storage Facility Image (SFI) has a unique WWNN. A WWPN is a unique identifier for each Fibre Channel port presented to a Storage Area Network (SAN).
