What is the use of crosslinker?

What happens after cross-linking surgery?
After a cross-linking procedure, your eyesight will be blurry at first. You may notice changes in your vision from time to time to time during the healing process. You may be more sensitive to light and have poorer vision for about 1-3 months after the surgery.

Formation. Cross-links can be formed by chemical reactions that are initiated by heat, pressure, change in pH, or irradiation. For example, mixing of an unpolymerized or partially polymerized resin with specific chemicals called crosslinking reagents results in a chemical reaction that forms cross-links.
Can you go blind from cross-linking?
In general, cross linking is very safe, but you should allow time for your eye to heal and problems do occasionally occur. About 3% of patients will experience some loss of vision in the treated eye as a result of haze, infection or other complications.
Is crosslinking painful?
First you will be given eye drops to numb your eye so there will be no pain during the procedure. The epithelium, or thin layer on the surface of the cornea, will be gently removed. Next the vitamin (riboflavin) eye drops will be applied to the cornea for at least 30 minutes.

It takes about 30 minutes for the drops to soak into your cornea. Then, you’ll lie back in a chair and look up at a light. You shouldn’t feel any pain during the procedure because your eyes will be numb. The entire treatment takes about 60-90 minutes.

After collagen cross-linking, you have a soft ‘bandage’ contact lens in place for seven days. You have been given several different drops and painkilling tablets. It is important to keep your eyes lubricated with your eye drops to allow the surface of the eye to recover during the weeks after surgery.

How long is recovery for cross-linking?

You will be putting eye drops in every 4 hours initially, then 3 times a day for 1 month and 2 times a day for another month.
