What is Timer Relay?

A Timer Relay is a combination of an electromechanical output relay and a control circuit. The contacts will open or close before or after a pre-selected, timed interval.

Where is the general purpose timing relay used?

Timing Relays are used extensively in industrial applications, HVAC systems and building services to provide time-delayed switching. For example to start a motor, control an electrical load, or simply automate an action.

How do timer relays work?

Upon application of input voltage, the time delay relay is ready to accept a trigger. When the trigger is applied, the time delay (t) begins. At the end of the time delay (t), the output is energized and remains in that condition as long as either the trigger is applied or the input voltage remains.

How do you test a timer relay?

Burden Test

  1. Adjust the timer with high time delay for example: 2 minutes.
  2. Energize the relay with 125V and measure the dc current.
  3. Note down the current before timer operates.
  4. After 2 minutes relay will pick up. Note down the current after operation.
  5. Calculate the relay power (W) = 125v x measured current.

How do I test a timer relay?

What is the difference between a relay and a safety relay?

Safety relay is generally used for combination of switches, while relay is mostly used for linkage of contacts.

What is K1 and K2 on a safety relay?

Two relays (K1, K2) with positive-guided contacts provide the safe switching contacts. The two input circuits CH1 and CH2 each activate one of the two internal relays. The circuit is activated via the start relay K3. There is another monitoring circuit between the connection points Y1 and Y2 (feedback loop).

How many types of timer relays are there?

ON-delay timers and OFF-delay timers are two common types of time delay relays and solid state timers.

How do you make a simple timer circuit?

this circuit serves its purpose of time delays operation of a device. The timer circuit is made with a number of different schematics which are explained as follows….Hardware Components.

S.no Components Qty
1. Transistor 2N3904 3
2. BC517 NPN Transistor 3
3. SPDT Relay 12V 3
4. 12V Power Supply 1

How does a 12V timer relay work?

The relay operates in one of two modes: DELAY OFF – a momentary +12V input is given (e.g. from a momentary switch), the relay energises and there is a delay before the relay de-energises. Note: If a continuous rather than momentary input signal is provided, the timer will commence when the signal is removed.

How can you tell if a relay is bad?

You want to feel and listen for any clicks. If you feel and hear clicks, the relay works on one side – the side with the energizing circuit and coil. However, if there was no sound from the horn, the relay has a problem along the contact circuit.
