How long does it take to pull a manual transmission?
It takes around two to three days to get the basics down, clutch control, gear shifting, not stalling, all that.
Do I have an AX5 or AX15?
If you look at the AX15 and AX5 side by side you will see a huge difference. The gears are larger, shafts are larger, bearings are larger, case is larger. It is the AX5 on steroids. If someone plans on modifying their Jeep and offroading it usually is not too big of a concern at first.

Registered. according to novak conversions they are not interchangable.. “Individuals, hoping to replace their AX5 occasionally assume the AX15 will replace it directly. The bellhousing patterns and spline counts between these similar appearing transmissions are deceivingly close, but not compatible.”
Can you swap an AX15 for an AX5?
You can now install the AX15 in place of the AX5 to gain some drivetrain strength. The nice thing is that when you are ready to replace the 4 cylinder with a larger V6 or V8, the AX15 is an ideal transmission for the power increase. This kit is for either the NP207 or NP231 Transfer case.
Will the transfer case of an AX5 fit on a AX15?
SO, the answer is YES! You can in fact swap the two to get the better transmission in your 4cyl YJ. All that is required: 1) gasket between transfer case and trans(seals and such as well if you’d like while its apart), and 2)Swap the bellhousing and transfer case from your AX5 to your new/used AX15. THATS IT!
