Why was White Flint demolished?
That agreement stated the mall’s owners would maintain the Rockville Pike property as a “first-class” mall until at least 2042. Instead, the owners ended leases with shops inside the mall and later demolished it over the past two years as part of a plan to redevelop the property into a massive mixed-use town center.
What was White Flint named after?
And the mall took its name from a country club that had been nearby. The country club was apparently named after the flint stone common in the area. The White Flint Country Club was on the site of an earlier club, the Harper Country Club.

The mall featured many anchors and smaller tenants; however, upon the decline and closing of its major anchors, the mall itself entered a state of decline. Finally, in 2002, the mall’s doors were closed and it ultimately was demolished in 2006. Sears remained open because it owned the land beneath the store.
